STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Incumbent is required to have professional knowledge of education theories, principles, procedures
and practices of education in a Grades K-8 school. Work involves planning, administering,
coordinating, promoting, advising, evaluating, improving and/or contributing toward improvement
of education programs, policies, standards, activities, and opportunities. Incumbent must be
skilled in group leadership and demonstration of techniques and methods and in carrying out
research. Major responsibilities include planning, advising, evaluating, modifying and updating the
curriculum, serving as a lead on the School Improvement Team and fulfilling the role as Reading
Coach for Grades K – 8th. Periodically observes classrooms for student progress and adherence to
program objectives. Assists teachers in adapting materials to meet particular needs of
mainstreamed pupils experiencing problems in the regular classrooms and in adapting the regular
program material to the learning level of the students. Incumbent will also be required to work
within the general guidance function supplementing and complementing the guidance role of the
administration, guidance, academic, and residential staff. Incumbent will be also be required to
maintain files and records of individual and group counseling sessions, collects, organizes and
interprets pupil personnel data for appraisal purposes. Prepares case summaries, case histories,
and case studies for professional use. Works closely with the academic staff, to follow the
academic growth of students, etc.

05 Level-Education Specialist: Level 05 specialists applies a knowledge of established
education principles and techniques in coordinating and administering segments of education
program(s) at the school, involving provision of technical advice to the Principal or Line Officer with
program management and evaluation responsibilities. Assignments typically require application of
conventional analytical and investigative techniques. The objectives are generally defined and
accomplished with guidance of precedents or standard practices.
06 Level-Education Specialist: Level 06 specialists applies a knowledge of advanced education
principles and practices to a wide range of duties in a broad functional or specialized area of
education such as reading, counseling, or school reform. Skill in adapting and extending education
principles to significant projects and problems for which there are no precedents. The specialist
provides technical assistance to staff and line officers in a specialized area. The position has in
depth evaluation responsibilities, making recommendations and initiating program changes for
improvement based on evaluation data with supervisory approval.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE FACTORS:
Knowledge of professional theories, principles and techniques of education and training in the
areas of staff development, curriculum development, and all annual reports and compliance
documentation.
Knowledge in academic group and individual counseling of students.
Knowledge of testing and evaluation of Arizona CORE curriculum in order to carry out assigned
duties and responsibilities.
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction development in math, reading (specifically “Storytown”
Reading Curriculum), language arts, social studies, etc.
Knowledge of in-service training methods and techniques in order to give in-service trainings in
bilingual education, after school programs, and technology, etc.
Knowledge of resource methods and techniques with the ability to adapt various education
materials to segment school’s regular academic program.
Knowledge of effective competitive grant writing (i.e. Title program grants, private, state, and local
grants etc.) Documented proof required.
Experience with Literacy and TESOL programs.
Enhanced writing and communication skills.

BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field / Master’s Degree in related field
Experience: 2 years related experience / 3 years of related experience
A Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree in an appropriate education/counseling field (or related
areas such as those required under P.L. 95.142) with a minimum of 12 semester hours of course
work in the particular area of specialization (Reading/Counseling/Curriculum Instruction) is
required. Applicant must be eligible to meet the Arizona Teaching Certification standards for this
position. However, if applicant is NOT AZ state certified but certified in another state, applicant
must show progress in meeting the requirements for the state of Arizona.

Applicant is subject to a favorable background investigation. Upon selection, selectee will
